Ladies We Have Failed Our Youth Big Time

Written by Nichelle at 10:29 am

I remember one time my ex little sister who I still consider my sister was 16 and these girls wanted to jump on her over a boy. The mother of the girl who by the way had her belly sticking out said “she just jealous because they having a baby”. WTF! Not only did she bring the girls to fight she was out there acting silly as well. Well I ain’t the one and I let it be known I will fluck up somebody daughter if they touched her. I was blown that a grown woman who would bring her knocked up daughter to fight over a pissed tail boy. We have failed our youth period! When I was growing up it wasn’t anyway I would be able to fight over a boy. We as grown women battle over men and the message pouring down to our young girls. A Brooklyn teen face was slashed over a pissed tail boy, I don’t understand it now the girls are going to go to jail and the girl face is messed up. Yet the pis tail boyis able to walk free and go stir up more trouble just foolish. Ladies we have to do better….

Every time a teen looks in the mirror, she will see the V-shaped scar – a permanent reminder of the violence that erupted near her grandmother’s Brooklyn home.

Shantayah Lewis, 17, sat in her room at Kings County Hospital Saturday, calmly reflecting on the Friday afternoon attack that left her with dozens of stitches in the left side of her face.

“My face is too beautiful to be fighting,” Shantayah told the Daily News. “Fighting is not the key. Violence is not the way.”

Shantayah was walking with her 15-year-old cousin, Shakeena Grant, on Franklin Ave. near Lincoln Place in Crown Heights about 3:30 p.m. They were being tailed by a girl who is dating the ex-boyfriend of Shakeena’s sister, Shamaula.

“She kept following us,” the injured teen said. “She wanted to fight.”

After a brief scuffle, the 17-year-old girl who had been following the cousins vowed to return.

About 5 p.m. the girl came back with her boyfriend, the center of the beef. She then whipped out what witnesses said was a knife and started slashing.

“She swung and started stabbing my face,” Shantayah said. “I didn’t know what to do.”

Shakeena, who was stabbed, was released from a hospital Saturday.

The two girls somehow escaped and ran to the Union St. home of Shantayah’s grandmother, Cheryl Evans. The grandmother called 911 and the two girls were taken to Kings County Hospital.

Though the wounded teens believed the boyfriend was holding them down, cops said he actually was trying to break up the attack.

Police talked to the man, who said he was trying to help, and surveillance video backs up his claim, sources said.

Shantayah said the whole thing should never have happened.

“Basically, [Shakeena] fought for her sister,” she said, referring to Shamaula, who used to date the attacker’s boyfriend. “She should not have done that. We should not have been involved.”

The young girl responsible for the attack was still at large last night and no arrests have been made.

I read this yesterday so sad. I had a girl in high school who wanted to fight me over a boy and I didnt want any parts of fighting over some boy so I always ignored her then she took it to the next level and started pushing me and I still ignored her and everybody thought I was scared of her but I wasnt I just did NOT want fight over a boy if anything he can fight over me but NOT me over him that has always been simple and childish to me even in high school. So anywhoo one night at a football game she kept messing w/me before I knew I had her azz on the fence wearing her out my daddy had to pull me off of her. Her mama wanted to press charges but my MAMA was NOT having it cause she had already talked to her mother about her daughter trying to fight me and told her I was going to snap one day and that is exatly what I did. Dont let the smooth taste fool ya!

I do think on one hand we are failing our kids on the other I think some kids have gudiance and still dont listen at times as well.

We need to start instilling self esteem and self love into these young girls then maybe they will STOP thinking fighting over some young boy who more than likely is running game on both of you will STOP once and for all. Girls have gotten extermely more violent over the years sadly.

I agree… When I was in school I got into a lot of trouble over piss tail little boys. At times I was the victim and other times I was the aggressor. I so regret my actions now and I have now realized that I was looking for attention my dad was not giving me. I have been through a lot and lawd knows I have been on both sides… I’m from NYC and sadly this is a daily occurrence…

They did not know exactly which house, so they each went to every house to find me. I called the police on them bitches so fast. Because for one, I had my daughter with me at home. I’m not about to put my baby in danger for no stupid shit. And two, when I bust a cap in one of their asses for trespassing I will have my shit on paper. I hate simple following ass bitches. Now, you going to get shot in the fucking head trying to be tough…fighting for a negro you not even fucking!!! Sorry, guys! Having flashbacks……

We need to set different priorities for children. Children should not be having adult relationships they are not equipped to handle mentally and emotionally. I feel sad for this girl and even her attacker, both of them have scarred lives for something that will not matter in a year or two.
