DMX Suing Company Over Royalties

Embattled rapper DMX is suing an entertainment company for helping themselves to his royalties over the last few years. In the lawsuit, which was filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Xsays that Rich Kid Entertainment has taken 100% of the funds stemming from a contract signed nearly a decade ago, when they were only entitled to 10%.

According to the Yonkers, NY-born rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, Rich Kid Entertainment was only hired to handle the copyright of foreign sales from his 1998 recordings, but in addition to that they made deals allowing record labels the right to reproduce his work without prior approval.

“DMX has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and has had #1 singles and albums on the Billboard charts, which in turn have generated a great amount of revenue for the defendents, but has left [DMX] with nothing,” reads the suit.

X, 39, credits his constant run-ins with the law for allowing the theft to continue on for so long. He is currently in jail inMaricopa County, Arizona for violating the terms of his probation from a 2008 animal abuse case. At the time of his arrest earlier this year, he was reportedly working on a new album.

DMX is seeking one million dollars in damages.
