Wale has responded to the recent allegations levied against him by the people behind of a LGBT event that he backed out of, and according to the D.C.-based rapper he didn’t cancel his performance out of concern for how his image would be affected by the “gay-friendly” event. Instead, while ranting on his Twitter page, he revealed that he didn’t even know that he was scheduled to perform at the festival and he also wasn’t aware of the cancellation.
“I’m cancelling what I was supposed to be doin…to go…yeah I’ll be there!” wrote Wale on Tuesday (May 25). “I’m not scared nor do I have any hatred for anybody. Didn’t know ‘bout the booking or cancellation…but this shyt is opening my eyes about how fareweather fans n media works.”
Earl Fowlkes, a board member of the Black Pride festival held in D.C., told local newspaper Metro Weekly, that Wale only backed out after the LBGT community-sponsored promotional flyers went out to the public.
“His agent first said Wale wasn’t available because he had to do family stuff. Then we got another e-mail saying he didn’t know what kind of event this was when he agreed to do it,” claimed Fowlkes.
In other news, Wale has reportedly started work on his sophomore effort. There currently isn’t any word on when the project will be released.
