Mary J. Blige pays tribute to Diana Ross on the cover of Ebony’s 65th anniversary issue. Ross’ iconic cover, which Blige captured very well, was shot in 1970. She nailed it, get it Mary.

Mary J. Blige debuted her new perfume, My Life, over the weekend and made HSN history in the process. The Home Shopping Network sold over 50 thousand bottles of the fragrance, which retails for about $50 a pop, making it the fastest selling and most popular fragrance to date for the network.

The singer announced the feat via her Twitter account and thanked her fans for supporting her.

“Fam!! We did it!! We broke records with My Life fragrance on HSN! And made history once again!!! 50K sold!!!,” Bligetweeted.

“Thank you so much! What an amazing support system!! You guys are the best!! …You saved so many lives and dreams tonight with your purchase!!! So many women will be getting the second chance they deserve!!!”

Blige created the perfume with help from Carol’s Daughter and described the scent as “a reflection of her personality.” A portion of the sale, which brought in $2.7 million in revenue, will be donated to Blige’s non-profit organization, Foundation for the Advancement for Women Now.

Her sales and revenue eclipsed the previous HSN record set by Sean “Diddy” Combs and his I Am King cologne this past winter. The music mogul sold 2,600 units of his I Am King classic gift set within 16 minutes and sold out his entire scent collection during his appearance on the network.

Mary J. Blige and her production team, The Clutch (Keri Hilson), have been sued by songwriters Jay Ballard and Kim Jones, who claim that the R&B Queen and her entourage have stolen the song Take Me As I Am.

The song was the fourth single released from Blige’s seventh studio album, The Breakthrough(2005), produced by Ron Fair and Infinity. Take Me As I Amwas an immediate success for its powerful lyrical content and the message it spread.

Take Me As I Am samples Lonnie Liston Smith’s Garden OfPeace, a song from the 1979 album Dreams Of Tomorrow. On his website, Smith wrote that “Mary J. really captured my original feel with this song, and it sends a very important message to today’s young ladies. Be confident in yourself, stay true to yourself, and not what others say or want you to be!”

Mary J. and The Clutch will have to explain the copyright violation to United States District Court in the Central District of California.

According to the lawsuit, Ballard and Jones, who wrote and copyrighted the song in 1995, ask for an accounting for all singles and albums sold in all formats, royalties and an accounting of publishing income derived from using the song in advertisements.

When Mary J Blige, during the concert for Good Morning America, told all her fans that she not only had finally received her high school Diploma, but she had also been admitted toHoward University, her fans became even more excited than her. The Queen of Hip-Hop proudly stated that the prestigious university had accepted her admission request and she was going to be a student of the class 2014.

According to a Howard University statement, the singer did apply but they are still considering her application, labeled “classified,” because Mary J has not completed the admission process quite yet. The university released the following statement that read, “We encourage Ms. Blige to continue her studies and welcome her consideration of HowardUniversity in the future. We are happy to work with Ms. Bligeon completing the formal process for admission.”

Mary J immediately answered to this statement on her Twitter page, asserting that she can prove she was admitted to Howard University because she has framed her acceptance letter, along with her high school Diploma. She states to be very proud of herself and that she would never lie about being admitted at Howard University.

Mary J. Blige will go back to school. The Queen of R&B gave the announcement during a concert at Central Park for ABC’sGood Morning America (see video below). Mary expressed her happiness about this decision because she “never had a chance to finish school.” The singer dropped out of school when she was attending the 11th grade. Blige has officially earned her high school diploma and has been accepted to Howard University where she will peruse her Bachelor’s Degree with the class of 2014.

Mary J. Blige and Intercope Records Chairman Jimmy Iovine has joined forces to develop Melodies by MJB, a new line of sunglasses. The line will launch in Fall 2010 and will feature 4 styles of shades with 20 color options.

Mary J. Blige has signed on to play Nina Simone in a biopic of the legendary singer. The Brave One writer Cynthia Mort penned the script for the film, which is currently titled Nina . Mort is also set to direct the film, which focuses on Simone’s relationship later in life with her assistant Clifton Henderson, played by David Oyelowo (The Last King of Scotland).

With a current budget of $10 million, the film is scheduled to begin shooting in France this September.

The network however said they are thrilled with their collaboration with the singer and planned to leverage all of HSN’s marketing channels, including television, online, mobile, print advertising, public relations, events and direct mail, to assure success of the product.
